Corners attract decorative purchases because they look unfinished in a photograph. A plant stand arrives, then a basket, then a lamp, until the corner occupies more attention than the seating. Before filling it, ask what the room is missing. If the answer is nothing, the open floor may be doing a valuable job.
Read the corner's conditions
Notice daylight, outlets, door swings, and the route past it. A plant needs a suitable position for its particular requirements, not merely an attractive pot. A lamp needs a safe cord route. A chair needs space for a person to sit and get up. The geometry of the corner is only part of the decision.
Look at it from the main seat. Sometimes a bare corner appears more noticeable from the doorway than it does during everyday use. You may not need to solve a view that occupies only a few seconds of the day.
Choose one purpose
A reading place needs a comfortable chair, light, and a small surface. A plant corner needs room for care and watering without crowding nearby furniture. A music corner might need storage for an instrument and a seat intended for playing. Choose one activity instead of trying to fit all three.
Use an existing piece to test the idea. Move a chair into the corner for a week or place a modest plant there if the light suits it. Observe whether the location is genuinely used before adding another permanent piece.
Connect it to the room
Repeat one material or color from the main furniture so the corner belongs to the same space. It does not need a complete matching vignette. A single tall element can balance a low sofa, while a lower object may preserve an important view through the room.
Keep the floor around the corner easy to clean. A tightly packed group of small pots and baskets can make a simple maintenance task awkward. If the corner sits near the main passage, leave enough margin that nobody brushes against it on every trip through the room.
There is no requirement to finish every corner at once. An open patch of wall and floor can make the useful parts of a room feel more comfortable. Add something when its purpose becomes clear.
